Delete your Reread account

App: Reread (com.fjordstudio.reread) on Google Play, by Fjord Studio

You can permanently delete your Reread account and the data linked to it at any time. Deletion can't be undone.

Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Google Play subscription. To stop being charged, cancel it in Google Play → Subscriptions first.

1Delete your account in the app (recommended)

  1. Open Reread and tap the gear on the home screen to open Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy and data, then Delete account and data.
  3. Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Delete my account.

This deletes your account and the data linked to it from our servers straight away (see below), and then clears everything Reread stored on your phone, including History, the names and notes in People, and the share shortcuts. You need an internet connection; if it fails, nothing on your phone is removed and you can try again.

Do this before you uninstall Reread. Uninstalling, or clearing the app's data, doesn't delete your account on our servers, and afterwards the app can't reach it any more (see below).

2Request deletion by email

If you can't use the app any more, email us and we'll delete your account for you. Reread accounts are anonymous, so before we delete one we check that the request comes from the person it belongs to:

  1. Email support@getreread.app with the subject "Delete my Reread account", from an address you can reply from.
  2. Include one of these:
    • Your Reread ID, from Settings → Privacy and data → Reread ID in the app (a code like D0M9D-DZ053); or
    • if you subscribed: your Google Play order number for Reread (it starts with GPA.), sent from the email address of the Google account you paid with, with the Google Play receipt for Reread forwarded or attached. Google sends that receipt only to the buyer, so it shows the purchase is yours.
  3. We confirm before deleting. We reply to the address you wrote from and ask you to confirm the deletion. We delete only after you confirm from that same address. If we can't match your request to an account, or an order number doesn't come from the address the receipt was sent to, we don't delete anything and tell you why.

We delete the account within 7 days of your confirmation, with the same steps on our servers as the in-app option, and reply once it's done. We can't reach your phone, so History, names and notes stay there until you uninstall Reread or clear its data.

Keep your Reread ID to yourself. It's what links you to your account, so anyone who has it could ask us to delete the account (deleting never sends your data to anyone). We'll never ask for your Google password, payment details, a code sent to your phone or the messages you checked, and emails about Reread come only from support@getreread.app.

Uninstalled already, or reinstalled? The Reread ID in a reinstalled app belongs to the new account; the old account's ID isn't shown anywhere any more. If you noted the old Reread ID, or subscribed on that account, email us as above. Without either, we can't tell which anonymous account was yours, so we can't find or delete it. It holds no name, email address or message content; see Section 6 of the privacy policy.

3Deleting some data without deleting your account

  • History: swipe a result away, or tap Clear all in History. To stop keeping results, turn off Keep history on this phone at the top of History (Settings → History), which also deletes what's there.
  • Names and notes: edit or remove them in Settings → People.
  • AI processing: withdraw it in Settings → Privacy and data → AI processing, which stops Reread sending any text.
  • Usage statistics and performance data: turn off Share usage stats in Settings → Privacy and data. This also removes the analytics fields stored with your account.
  • Crash reports: turn off Send crash reports in Settings → Privacy and data.
  • Anything else: email us (address above) to ask us to delete specific data, such as a report you sent, or the usage statistics collected from your installation.

4What is deleted, and what is kept

Deleted: your anonymous account, your settings and setup answers, your consent record, the analytics fields stored with your account, the link between your account and your subscription, your access-code redemptions, your usage counts and rate-limit record, the free-preview marker for your account, and any reports you sent. On your phone, deleting in the app clears everything Reread stored, resets this installation's usage statistics and deletes its Firebase Installation ID.

Kept for a limited time:

  • Purchase records: unlinked from your account and reduced to the purchase token and order number, the plan, its dates and status, any refunds and, if you used Reread that day, the day's usage counts (so a restore the same day doesn't reset the daily limit). We keep them until the subscription's expiry date plus 90 days, to handle refunds, chargebacks and abuse.
  • Proof of deletion: a one-way hash of your account ID and the time of deletion, for 35 days.
  • Free-preview marker for the installation: a one-way hash of the app's installation ID, which can't be linked back to you, until it expires (90 days after the preview).
  • Data that expires on its own schedule: server logs (30 days; they never contain message text), crash reports and performance data (90 days), and usage statistics already sent to Google Analytics (up to 14 months). Deleting your account doesn't erase these sooner. If you want your usage statistics erased, email us with your Reread ID before you delete your account, and we'll ask Google Analytics to delete them.
  • Email requests: if you asked by email, we keep the request for 60 days after handling it.

Google Play keeps its own order records, which we don't control. See the privacy policy for all retention periods.

5Note about subscriptions

Deleting your Reread account, or uninstalling Reread, doesn't cancel a Google Play subscription. Manage or cancel it in Google Play → Subscriptions. If you still have paid time left after deleting, reinstall Reread and tap Restore with the same Google Play account.
