Support
Email support@getreread.app. We usually reply within two working days. Please include your Reread ID (in the app under Settings → Privacy and data), or your Google Play order number (it starts with GPA.) if you can't open the app. Never send us the messages themselves.
1How to use Reread
Reread works from the apps you already use. Open Reread once and finish setup first.
Decode a message you received
- Share a screenshot: take a screenshot of the chat, tap Share, then pick Reread. Reread reads it on your phone and shows what they likely mean, with three replies.
- Share the text: long-press their message, tap Share (or Forward in some apps), then pick Reread.
- In the app: on Reread's home screen, tap Choose a screenshot or Paste their message.
Check a draft before you send it
- Text menu: select the text you're writing, then tap Reread in the menu that appears. On some phones it's under ⋮ or More.
- Share: select your draft, tap Share, then pick Reread.
- Use the tile: copy your reply, swipe down for Quick Settings and tap the Reread clipboard tile to check it. The tile always checks the copied text as your own draft, so to decode their message, share it to Reread instead. To add the tile, tap Add Quick Settings tile in Reread's Settings, or open Quick Settings, tap the pencil or Edit button and drag Reread into your tiles.
- In the app: type or paste your draft on Reread's home screen and tap Check it.
Shortcuts
Long-press the Reread icon on your home screen for Check copied text and Decode a screenshot. Up to three readers, like Manager or Landlord, can also appear in your share menu: share a message straight to one and Reread decodes it as from that person. Choose them with Show in share menu in Settings → People. Android decides which of them appear.
After you subscribe
Reread shows your full result right away, then a short setup you can skip: a reminder before a free trial ends (or a calendar entry, if you'd rather not allow notifications), the readers for your share menu, the Quick Settings tile, and a question about where you found Reread. It only shows once.
2Reread isn't in the menu when I select text
Some apps put it under the ⋮ overflow menu of the text-selection toolbar. On Samsung phones, open the text menu's ⋮, tap Manage apps and turn Reread on. Some apps don't show other apps' text actions at all; there, copy your draft and tap the Reread tile to check it, or share it to Reread instead.
3History
Reread keeps your last 50 checks and decodes in History, only on your phone. Open it from Settings → History, or tap See all under Recent on the home screen. A saved result opens read-only and works offline; nothing is sent again.
- Swipe a result away to delete it (tap Undo if you didn't mean to), or tap Clear all.
- To stop keeping results, turn off Keep history on this phone at the top of History. That also deletes what's there.
- A locked free preview isn't saved until you subscribe and it unlocks. The built-in examples aren't saved.
- History isn't backed up, so it doesn't move to a new phone.
4People and readers
In Settings → People you can give each reader (manager, coworker, client, recruiter, landlord, co-parent, family, date) a name, so results say "How Dana hears it", and a short note, like "new to the team, likes short messages".
- Names stay on your phone and are replaced before anything is sent.
- A note is sent with checks and decodes for that person, masked first like a message: saved names are replaced, and phone numbers, emails, street addresses and card numbers in common formats are hidden. Other names in it are sent as written.
- Default reader (in People or Settings) is who a check is for when Reread can't tell. Reread also remembers who you picked last in each app.
5Make Reread look and feel right
- Theme: Settings → Look and feel → Theme: the same as your phone, light or dark.
- Colour-blind friendly colours: blue and orange instead of green and red in the tone bar and highlights.
- Reduce motion: fades instead of movement. Reread also does this by itself when your phone's animations are off, in power save, or when the phone is warm.
- Trial reminders: while a free trial runs, turn them on or off in Settings → Trial reminders. If notifications are off for Reread in Android settings, Reread shows a shortcut to turn them on.
6Subscriptions
Reread gives you one free preview. After that, you need Reread Pro, with a free trial when Google Play offers one. Your plan shows at the top of the home screen: Trial with its end date, Pro, or Locked.
No free trial offered?
Google Play decides who can get a free trial, usually one per Google account. If you've had a Reread trial before on this Google account, you'll see the regular price instead, and the plan sheet says so before you pay.
"Free previews are paused right now"
We sometimes pause free previews for a while, for example when demand is very high. Your preview isn't used up: try again later, or choose a plan.
Cancel or change your plan
Go to Google Play → Subscriptions, or open Reread's Settings and tap Manage in Google Play on your plan at the top. If you cancel during a free trial, you won't be charged. Otherwise you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and the home screen says until when, with a Resubscribe button. Uninstalling Reread or deleting your account doesn't cancel the subscription.
Payment problem, on hold or paused
- Payment problem: Reread keeps working for now. Tap Fix payment on the home screen to update your payment method in Google Play.
- On hold: Google Play couldn't take the payment, so Reread is locked. Tap Fix payment; Reread checks again when you come back from Google Play.
- Paused: Reread is locked until the date you chose in Google Play. Tap Resume to start again sooner.
- Payment pending: Reread unlocks as soon as Google Play confirms the payment.
New phone or reinstalled
Open Reread, then tap Restore on the plan sheet or on your plan at the top of Settings, while signed in to the same Google Play account you subscribed with. History, names and notes stay on the old phone.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy.
7"Reread is being updated" or "Decode is paused"
Now and then we pause checks and decodes for a few minutes, or pause Decode alone. Reread tells you on the home screen or in the result sheet, and your message isn't analysed. Check keeps working while only Decode is paused. Try again a little later.
8Is my message stored?
Not by us. Reread masks common private details on your phone, such as phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses and card numbers, sends the masked text to Google's Gemini models for the result, and doesn't keep your messages on our servers. Masking uses fixed patterns and, once its model is on your phone, Google ML Kit's on-device detail detection; other names are sent as written, and a detail written in an unusual way can be missed. Screenshots never leave your phone. Your last 50 results stay in History on your phone only, and you can clear or turn off History at any time.
- Usage stats and crash reports: turn them on or off in Settings → Privacy and data (Share usage stats and Send crash reports). Neither includes your messages, names or notes.
- Blank in the app switcher? On Android 13 and later, Reread hides its screens in Recents, so a message you decoded doesn't show there. Screenshots still work.
Read the privacy policy for the details.
9Delete your account
In the app, go to Settings → Privacy and data → Delete account and data. It also clears History, names and notes from your phone. Do it before you uninstall: uninstalling doesn't delete your account. You can also ask us by email. See how to delete your account for both options and what is kept.
